Story Behind the Art:
This delightful sprig of wild roses has a light and airy aesthetic. I love the freedom and slightly wild appearance of this stem, contrasted by the vintage glass vase that holds them. In many ways this represents my own season of life. Full of untamed beauty as I raise my little men, a few mishaps along the way (fallen petal), all “rooted” or “watered” by the values that our families have passed down for generations.
Tonal Botanicals Collection:
This collection was born out of my love for history. After sorting through my own student work on newsprint and flipping through some of my art history books, my fingers began to itch to bring back some of that aesthetic into my own artwork. The traditional aspect of a full pencil shaded drawing, the tonal play and interest of tinted papers and added highlights excited me and I was quickly addicted.
My goal with this collection is to capture much of the same delicate and playful illustrations that are featured in my other artwork, but with a more historic and formal way. I love mixing these pieces in with watercolors or line drawings as the darker, tonal papers have a way of grounding a gallery wall or collection and bringing a new sense of balance to the entire space.
