Story Behind the Art:
Another selection of the Secret Garden Collection that leans on the “calming” and “refreshing” side of the balance with just a touch of “playful”. These flowers paired with the bumble bee (a favorite theme of mine, as I’m sure you already know) communicate God’s provision to me. The harmonious relationship that the flowers have with pollinators is one that could not have been planned more perfectly. Truly symbiotic in nature. If the lilies of the field don’t worry, and the birds of the air fret not… then what do I have to fear?
The Secret Garden Collection:
My Secret Garden series was inspired by my daydreams for the garden that “could be” behind our own little home. We’re slowly making this house a home by adding elements of ourselves into every nook and cranny. The back garden is my favorite place to spend summer months—the sound of our boys playing and exploring, dirt and flower petals at my fingertips, produce emerging or waiting to be harvested, the buzz of insects and the whispers and dreams we share together among the developing landscape around us.
Because this series is so personal and raw to me, I wanted the artwork to reflect some of that vulnerability. Each print in this series was intentionally prepared to preserve the texture and marks of the original illustration—you can even find some of my initial pencil marks throughout the piece.
